Overview: hotel description: SkiStar Lodge Hundfjället description

Being an early bird skier’s easy at SkiStar Lodge Hundfjället. When you’re just a couple of minutes’ ambling from one of the resort’s main lifts, you can take it chill and still be one of the first people on the slopes. So relax, enjoy the ride up and think about which run you’ll be starting with today. Later, when you’re ready to hang up your skis, you can look forward to an easy finish too – when the snow’s good, you can slide right back to the hotel, no walking needed.

There’s a certain something about a heated pool with a snowy view. The Frost pool at SkiStar’s floor to ceiling windows and waterfalls give the spa area a rather smart look and there’s a bunch of other treats to experience, including a caldarium, hot tubs and saunas galore. You’ll need to pay a bit extra to visit the Frost pool and spa, but will get half-price entry as a guest at the hotel. It’s a great spot for a chilled après though – the evenings are adults only, for peak relaxation.

The restaurant and bar have an appealing Scandi-style elegance about them. Minimalist furniture and simple design are combined with some atmospheric lighting and a few chic touches to make things feel luxurious. You’re well looked after too – amongst the staff at evening meals, you’ll find a sommelier ready to bring you the best the cellar has to offer. Whether you’re upgrading to half board or dining à la carte, you’re in for a treat.

The biggest ski area in Sweden, Sälen or Sälenfjällen’s made up of a handful of villages and their ski areas, spread across a series of the Dalarna fells near Norway. The main resort, Lindvallen, is built around four squares with the all singing, all dancing Experoum centre and shops in Sälfjällstorget. It’s lift and bus linked with the smaller resort of Högfjället (the oldest village in the area), where you’ll find a hotel, cabins, restaurant and shop. Further along the valley, the villages ...
Look for the giant snowman in Lindvallen which marks the Valleberget children’s ski area, home to button lifts and forgiving slopes. The forty something pistes over here are generally lovely and wide for big turns and cruisey descents, though you’ll find steeper offerings from the Express 303 lift (try Permilla) and a snow park with all manner of boxes, rails and jumps. Nearby Högfjället’s slopes are a dream for newbies, with a gaggle of greens at the bottom joined by the long Åsa green and three blue...
Sälen’s main stage comes alive with big après parties at certain points throughout the ski season – look out for the Easter party and the Winter Finale. The hub of action is Lindvallen, where you’ll find live music at Lodgebaren six days a week, which has a huge open fire and serves cracking cocktails. O’Learys has a classic pub environment, while Bar & Café Di Luca’s one for sipping fine Italian vino. Its neighbour, Ristorante Casa Di Luca does an a la carte Italian menu (whatever you do, don’t miss th...
