Overview: hotel description: Hotel Alpina description

Traditional Austrian meets modern chic at the Alpina, a family-run stay that’s been passed down through the generations. Service is front and centre here, and things are done with that personal touch – whether it’s the friendly chit-chat with your waiter or the bar staff who remember your fave tipple from day one.

Some bits of the hotel hark back to its elegant Austrian roots. The lobby leads the way in this department, with its carved wooden panels, grand staircase and wrought iron banister. Then there’s the arched brick wine cellar – chock-full of top-notch wines of course. Other parts of the hotel look like something straight from a modern magazine, like the bar with brown leather armchairs and modern artwork. And the sleek little wellness area follows the theme too. Post-ski session in the sauna or steam room anyone?

Days start with a delicious buffet breakfast spread each morning in the hotel restaurant. And you can also book a table here for your evening meal. Classic Austria is the speciality, though like the hotel itself, lots of the traditional dishes have been given an up-to-date twist. Then to wrap up the night, swing by the bar to sip a nightcap or ask the staff to mix up a unique cocktail

Après ski starts post-lunch on the slopes, where the main mountain bars at Idalp fill with buzzing skiers and boarders on the first (and certainly not last) Jägertee of the day.
