One of the more tranquil Lake Garda resorts, Salò is an excellent choice for an August summer holiday if you want somewhere where you can really get away from everyday life. This is the place to enjoy warm weather in a traditional Italian location that’s oozing culture and history.
As well as being a great resort for culture vultures, if you want your holiday in August to be active, Salò is a brilliant. Water based activities include diving and canoeing in the lake and Salò sits in front of a vast national park which offers a variety of walking, hiking and cycling routes, and is also home to a great Adventure park with climbing walls, rope courses and much more.
If you’re travelling to Salo in August, which is one of the hottest months, you’ll be pleased to find that it has some lovely beach areas. Recline in deckchairs and hire pedalos at Mulino, or get active in Rimbalzello which has a beach volleyball court and offers diving equipment, canoe and pedalo hire for fun in the water. For the warm summer nights here in August, both beaches often have live music and DJ’s.
To enjoy Salò at a slower pace, you can stroll down its lovely lakeside promenade (the longest in Lake Garda), browse various shops and boutiques and enjoy tasty food and drink in the many and varied restaurants and cafes. There’s a 9 hole golf course nearby and the beautiful Cathedral in the town centre is well worth a visit. For a day out nearby, head over to Gardone Riviera where you can visit Gabriele D'Annunzio’s house as well as the beautiful Heller gardens.
Top events at this time of year include music concerts in the Baden Powell Gardens and Piazza del Duomo, which are well worth attending if you’re staying here at the time. Salò is beautiful in the August sunshine and offers a variety of things to do and see at whatever pace of holiday suits you.
