Book a holiday to Desenzano during August for gloriously hot weather in a bustling Italian town full of culture and great cuisine.
Desenzano’s position on the southern end of Lake Garda gets the best of the summer sunshine and with shelter from wind this is somewhere you can enjoy serious sunshine. Desenzano is also a fantastic place to stay if you want to visit any of the larger Italian towns, with Milan, Venice and Verona all accessible from its train station.
For days by the lake in August’s hot weather, Desenzano has several pebble beaches where you can swim in the lake, recline in deck chairs and hire pedalos for fun on the water. Because Desenzano is so sheltered from wind, it can feel quite hot here in the summer, especially when the sun is at its highest. To keep cool, take a vineyard tour or head into the historic city centre and explore the cafes, bars and shops. You can also walk the narrow street to Desenzano’s castle where you’ll find shelter between the ancient stone walls, as well as fantastic views over the lake. For some amazing architecture and artwork in a cool and peaceful setting, the churches and cathedral are also worth visiting.
Afternoons and evenings here are lovely and warm in August. Sit back in one of the harbours (Desenzano has two) and watch the world go by and head to Piazza Malvezzi or Matteotti later on for the best nightlife in the area or to Golden beach for al fresco dining and live music on the lakefront.
We love the fact that Desenzano is one of Lake Garda’s larger towns and that makes for an intoxicating and bustling atmosphere here during the summer months. If you’d rather stay in a quieter resort, have a look at Maderno and Torri or for a sporty summer holiday visit Torbole.
