Perfect if you’re looking for somewhere sunny to stay in Lake Garda in May, Desenzano is located on the southern part of the lake which means it usually gets less wind and feels warmer than other Lake Garda resorts. One of the Lake’s larger resorts, this is a brilliant place to stay if you want to experience a living and breathing Italian town which has something to do whatever the May weather.
Rainy spells are usually short and provide the perfect excuse to see the mosaics at the roman villa, view the art at the cathedral and browse Desenzano’s brilliant range of shops. A benefit of staying in Desenzano is that the resort has its own train station providing easy access to Verona and Venice for sightseeing further afield.
Take advantage of the milder temperatures in May on walks through Desenzano’s lush vineyards or up to the castle where you’ll find some fantastic views. On sunny days, you can enjoy lazy afternoons at one of the harbours, relax on one of three lovely beaches and even have a swim, as the water begins to warm in May.
The great thing about Desenzano is that it’s a proper Italian town with lots going on. It’s a pretty relaxed place but, if you’re looking for a very quiet holiday, you might want to visit the a smaller resorts such as Maderno or Salò too.
