Not only do Zermatt’s traditional Swiss chocolate-box buildings make it a perfect, snowy Christmas card setting, Zermatt also offers excellent Christmas skiing and has an ambiance brimming with festive spirit. With a high altitude ski area including a skiable glacier, the snow here is usually terrific around late December so you’re more likely than in other resorts to enjoy great Christmas skiing in Zermatt.

It’s hard to beat sitting on an outdoor terrace, mulled wine in hand with a view of the stunning Matterhorn in front of you, but Zermatt has a lot more on offer than white Xmas scenery and ambiance, to make sure everyone has an amazing Christmas. Enjoy outdoor festive activities such as skating on the ice rink or horse-drawn sleigh rides. Music concerts are put on throughout Christmas week and the restaurants offer some mouth watering festive menus.

Zermatt was voted best resort for après ski in the 2012 World Snow Awards, so it’s fantastic for an Xmas ski week for those who like to party! There’s lots on at this time of year including Christmas events in many of the après ski venues with live bands and DJ’s.
