Nendaz New Year holidays
Nendaz might not have the same reputation for nightlife as neighbour Verbier, but you can still enjoy a great New Year break here that is bound to be a lot more easy-going on the wallet!
New Year’s Eve often begins with a traditional alphorn music performance in the centre of the village, followed by a fire show and torch lit mountain descent, where revellers have in the past been greeted with vin chaud, hot chocolate, brioche and gingerbread. At midnight, there’s usually a cannon fire salute followed by 15 minutes of spectacular fireworks, where the mountains and the night’s sky are lit up with colour. From here, the party heads to the bars and clubs until the early hours of the morning. Some, such as the Cactus Saloon, have limited places so make sure you get tickets in advance so you don’t miss out on the biggest night of the year.
Several restaurants have special “St Sylvester” New Year’s Eve menus. In past years, this has included the Tracouet Restaurant at the top of the Tracouet gondola at 2200m, which usually has a delicious set menu followed by fireworks and live music.
The high altitude of the runs in the area, and the nearby heights of the Mont-Fort glacier, mean that you’re likely to see in the New Year with some great skiing conditions – there’s no better way to clear the head than making fresh tracks in the untouched early morning snow.
