Les Diablerets Christmas holidays
Visitors to Les Diablerets at Christmas can expect a fantastic winter setting, usually with charming market stalls and twinkling lights decorating the pedestrianised village centre. The annual Marché de Noël is delightfully festive and tends to have a brilliant selection of stocking fillers and traditional Swiss souvenirs on sale. Either kick back and cosy up with a Swiss hot chocolate and roasted chestnuts or get stuck into snowman and igloo making competitions, which have been really popular in previous years. The real highlight is the traditional visit from Santa Claus, who’s been known to make a dramatic entrance on his sleigh whilst throwing presents to the crowd – one not to miss if you’ve kids with you! Up on the glacier, you can even take a scenic husky ride through the snow, returning to the resort for a spin on the ice rink and local sledge runs.
The skiing is usually at its best on the glacier at the beginning of the season, with a history of deep snow on the Olden run and beautiful powder on many of the other pistes. The south-facing Issenau is a godsend in chilly conditions whilst Meilleret has some brilliant tree-lined routes to escape to in the midst of a whiteout. If you’re heading over to Villars, be sure to stick around the 2000m mark as this is where you’ll tend to find the best snow – we like Croix des Chaux for experts, whilst the Chamossaire is great for intermediates.
