Interlaken Christmas holidays
As a traditional Swiss town that’s separated from the skiing, Christmas here can be the perfect mix of exploring the old market town and popping over to the Jungfrau area for some adventure on the mountains. Because it doesn’t have a ski area on its doorstep, holidays here are often cheaper too (saving money for that all-important Christmas shopping down the Hoheweg).
Not only do you get to spend Christmas in a stunning lakeside location with a backdrop of the Swiss Alps; Interlaken has loads of festive events and activities too:
Interlaken and the nearby villages usually ooze festive spirit with market stalls selling all types of traditional goodies. Christmas Eve has been buzzing in recent years, with locals selling Swiss chocolates, cookies and Glühwein from the stalls lining the streets.
See if the tourist office are still doing sledging trips to the Niederhorn for some snow fun by starlight. The horse-drawn carriage rides through pretty Grindelwald are a lovely Christmas treat and closer to home, the outdoor ice rink in Matten is both a fun place for kids and a romantic backdrop for couples.
Combine this with what’s usually a good snow cover in the stunning Jungfrau region and you can have a super week in the Alps!
