Grindelwald Christmas holidays
Where better to spend Christmas than in a traditional, snowy mountain setting? The Swiss love their Yuletide celebrations, and Grindelwald is no exception. With tasteful decorations lining the streets and enormous Christmas trees at every turn, you’ll be charmed by the town’s festive atmosphere. The mulled wine, or glühwein as its known here, is exceptionally good, and if you head to the Grindelwalder market stands at the Bärplatz you’ll find lots of other local produce and specialities to try. For even more shopping and markets, take the scenic train ride down the valley and head to the pretty cities of Thun and Interlaken, or combine shopping with a visit the bear park in the capital Bern.
The skiing in Grindelwald over December is usually in great condition, but if the snowfall isn’t as good as normal, the snow making facilities are excellent: over 50% of the pistes can be covered by artificial snow. There are lots of fun activities away from the slopes too – why not go for an ice skate on the natural rink by the Christmas market, or tackle the longest sledge run in the world, ‘Big Pintenfritz’ on the Faulhorn.
