Crans Montana New Year holidays
Though Crans Montana's generally much more subdued than Verbier or St. Anton, the turn of the year doesn't pass quietly here. With a shimmering fireworks display, wafts of several different food stands and live music, there's usually a convivial atmosphere in the square that families and groups will love. All looking for a fizzier night should head to the ice cool Pacha club for dancing till dawn, or try your hand at the casino card tables.
If you choose to stay in one of the hotels, you can often expect a fabulous gala dinner included in your booking costs and spa facilities to revitalize you for the year ahead. Opt for self-catering and the celebrations are down to you: spend the evening in with home cooked supper, board games and a bottle of wine (the Au Caveau wine cellar in the Migros will kit you out) or head out into resort to enjoy the festivities.
On the mountain, make it your new year's resolution to perfect a trick in the enormous Adrenaline snowpark, tackle Nationale the men's downhill run (from the 1987 World Championships) or embark on the heli-skiing trip of a lifetime with the Bureau des guides. That's if you can tear yourself from the biggest luxury shopping area in the Alps… (Oxford Street sales - long forgotten).
