Arosa Christmas holidays
We’re big fans of Christmas in Arosa, where toboggans and horse-drawn sleigh rides are the best ways to get around and skating on the Obersee lake completes the festive scene.
With sunny, high altitude skiing in what’s now one of Switzerland’s biggest ski areas - and a standard of wellness facilities you only find in an official ‘Alpine Health resort’, it’s not just the Christmas card-esque setting we love about this place…
The south facing ski area usually gets a welcome dose of sunshine, which is a real bonus this early in the season. Thanks to pistes reaching a soaring 2653m, December has a glowing history of snow cover and if the slopes do need a top-up, there are snow cannons on all main runs. If Father Christmas has been super generous in the snow department and you need a bit of shelter, head to the Tschuggen area which is protected from the worst of the winds.
Make the most of the link to Lenzerheide for the advent Magic Forest event that usually takes place in the depths of the Eichhörnliwald forest; having featured live music and traditional market stalls in recent years, it really does feel magical. Back at base, have an old-school Christmas sing along at the village church or persuade Santa to treat you to some pampering in one of the spas…
