Nice, no-frills apartments

Reviewed 3 Jun 2016

The apartments are basic but good, in a central location right near all the bus stops. They were pretty much what I had expected. Much the same as other French apartments they were dead small but there was room for us all. We ate out, so just slept in the apartment and that was it really.
The actual hotel doesn’t have any facilities like a spa or pool, but that wasn’t a problem for us.

Does what it says on the tin, perfect for what we needed

Reviewed 6 Jun 2014

I’m happy to recommend La Rivere Apartments to anyone looking for a good quality flat offering comfortable beds and a large living area. The location is ideal as it’s in the centre of Chamonix & across the road from the bus terminal which is ideal when carrying heavy skis. There are a number of well equipped supermarkets within a short walk & Monster bar is particularly good.
I’d give it 4/5. Not necessarily in terms of a 4* hotel but just because it does what it says on the tin. It’s a moderately priced flat in the centre of Chamonix which was perfect for what we needed.

Lovely, modern and spacious

Reviewed 3 Jun 2014

The apartments were lovely, really nice. We had quite a spacious studio. They were well equipped. We cooked for ourselves – there was a little Spar and some bakeries nearby. It’s really easy to get to the skiing from the apartments, the bus stops right outside. It was fine getting the bus to the lifts. The apartments are quite modern. They are fine for groups of friends or families. The reception staff were nice; it was quite busy when we arrived and it took some time to check in. There was nowhere to leave our bags so we left them at a bar nearby, but that was fine. It’s a good place for quite a relaxed, chilled out holiday. It’s not a luxury chalet or anything but it’s enough for what you need.

Top marks

The apartments are quite small but were perfect for what we needed. There were three of us in one apartment, with bunk beds in the hall and a sofa bed in the main room which was all nice and comfy. There’s a place where you can put your skis and snowboards away and the apartment had a nice balcony with amazing views of Mont Blanc. The bathroom was fine and always had hot water, there’s a TV if you want it and we didn’t use it but there’s WiFi which is chargeable.
The kitchen was good and most of the time we self catered – there’s a Spar shop literally a minutes’ walk away which had everything we wanted. There’s a good pizza place around the corner where we got a takeaway on the first evening (when you walk from the apartment towards the town it’s on the right hand side by the river), the guy remembered us from the year before which is always nice. There’s a little square in between when you walk through all the houses towards the Aguille Midi lift where there are shops and bars including Bar Barberousse which is nice and quiet.
The bus stop is only a couple of minutes walk away and from this you can go to any of the areas depending where you get off, if you go all the way to Les Houches (lovely tree-lined runs) it takes 30 minutes (which is free with the Mont Blanc Unlimited pass) or Brevent (good for beginners and kids) takes about 10-15 minutes.
