Chalet in Zug

Reviewed 12 May 2016

The chalet was good on the whole, the chalet manager kept changing over so it was a little bit disorganised but in general the staff knew what they were doing.
The cooks tried hard and the food was fine, some of the people complained about the breakfasts not being big enough but they were alright for me – it just would have been better if they could cater for bigger appetites too.
There was plenty of space around the building. We were right on the top floor where there was another seating area, we didn’t use it but it was there if we needed it.
The Zug chair lift is right outside the chalet so in about 50 metres you’re on the lift which is fantastic.

Our second stay in this excellent chalet

Reviewed 17 Apr 2015

We all had a good week away, this was our second time staying in the same chalet because we enjoyed it so much the first time. It’s been refurbished quite recently and is very spacious. The hosts were excellent. We’ve been with this chalet company before and it was the same kind of catering they usually do: a nice 3 course dinner, breakfast and cakes in the afternoon. We could ski out down a very small slope, go over the bridge and then ski to the lift, so it definitely is a ski out chalet. To ski in, you come off a red from Zug. With a lack of snow it was obviously a bit choppy and icy but with good snow it would be better.

Fantastic location,great food and staff

Reviewed 28 Mar 2015

This chalet is in a ski in ski out location when there is snow but otherwise still only minutes away from first lift up and can ski right back to the chalet. The staff cannot do enough for you and Joanna cooks some fantastic cakes. Dan and Joanna cooked all the meals from scratch and there was plenty of it. Not forgetting Scott who was always friendly and helpful. We were a party of 8 and stayed on the first floor, all the rooms were a really good size. Nice modern clean shower rooms with excellent water pressure. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay there again.

Exceeding expectations - Chalet Alpenland – Zug

Reviewed 13 Oct 2014

My family & I would just like to pass on our thanks to John Knowelden and his team (Vicky & Becky) at Chalet Haus Alpenland in Zug. (Arrival date 30th March 2014)
As we booked very late (the main emphasis being value for money) we have to say the holiday far exceeded our expectations. The resort was great for the time of year and the chalet was significantly better than we have previously experienced over many years of European skiing. The staff led by John and his team were outstanding – any request was dealt with immediately. John is extremely knowledgeable, sociable and is a significant asset to the staffing of the tour operator. The food was to a high standard all week and the afternoon cakes were exceptional.

We were very taken with Lech / Zurs as a resort and will return, perhaps when the snow is great for off piste skiing.

The only changes we would make to the chalet would be decent pillows, a comfy sofa or two in the lounge and improved wi-fi. We fully realise this is down to the chalet owner and not the tour operator.

... Hoping they open a chalet at Snowmass in Aspen as we go there regularly…….!

Many thanks

Al, Jane, Alex & Izzy Hall

A great base for an outstanding trip.

Reviewed 13 Oct 2014

A really enjoyable week away in a beautiful location. A simple 5 minutes bus journey into the town or take the small lift to begin your skiing.
Our hosts Tom and Jess were exceptional.....informal and friendly yet professional with it, pretty much faultless to be honest. This is the same with Rep Becky who was a constant help, the company need to keep hold of people like this.

The rooms and sauna are small, and the lounge could do with comfy chairs, but these things aside it was a lovely place to stay and recommended for people who are looking for a good all round package. The food is lovely, but can be a bit 'cuisine' like.....I'd love a big plate of spag bol instead of arty stuff (not the chalet hosts fault).

A great overall result......someday we will return.........

Chalet Alpenland, Zug, 19-26 Jan 2014

Reviewed 13 Oct 2014

Accommodation: Very good, big bedrooms and bathroom, large lounge, slightly small dining room for 18 people, great sauna and boot room, spotlessly clean, quiet, lovely views.
Staff: Truly amazing service from Tom and Jess, wonderful food (too much), good wine, lots of little details made them the perfect hosts. I only hope they can keep going at that rate of work, nothing was too much trouble! A truly lovely couple. Same can't be said of Zug rep, as much use as a politician and about as clueless. Arrivals need to know snow conditions and daily forecasts, best areas, good restaurants for Thursday night, best way back to the Chalet on skis etc. Overworked hosts need help too. Becky, get your act together. However, John the overall Manager was very helpful and pleasant when we saw him.

Chalet access: Chalet can be skied to and from, but in fresh snow and without skis it is a fair climb back to the Village and no fun in the early morning when you have a coach to catch. With skis it is worse.

Slope access: 2 minutes to the chair, 10 minutes to the whole ski area, no limit to the range of skiing, superb.

Zug: VERY small, don't bother, catch the bus to Lech (5 minutes) which is the best place for food, bars, shopping. Also try Zurs area for skiing. Route back to Zug on skis is a rough and tough red, not for beginners.

Transfer: Innsbruck to Zug takes over 2 hours, nearer 2:30.

Area for improvement: Get a knowledgeable, experienced Chalet rep who is a keen skier. Offer smaller portions of food at dinner with more available if wanted. Offer Tom and Jess lifetime contracts!

Austria: If you are used to France (3 V's, La Plagne, Val etc) you'll find Austrian skiing more demanding and far prettier, with pleasanter locals who are more polite (but then, who isn't more polite than the French!) and similar prices with far better service and quality.

Quaint spot with good access to Lech centre

Reviewed 22 Nov 2013

Modern in appearance, and spacious living quarters for its 19 guests; large groups of well-seasoned skiers will love this chalet. Being in a small hamlet with just a handful of local bars, it nonetheless has very good access to the main town of Lech, with a bus service running until the early hours of the morning in much of the peak season. Expert skiers will enjoy the location of this chalet because its ski-in ski-out if you're comfortable on the red 48 Zugertobel run, or black 49 Zuppert as well as next door to the Zugerbahn chairlift.
