Beitostolen Christmas holidays
This small Scandinavian village is uncrowded, beautifully secluded and super snowy, a blueprint for Christmas magic with the family. Because it’s still sorely undervalued by Brits, the gentle slopes around the resort are likely to be blissfully quiet even now; lessons with the Beito-Aktiv School make for wonderful presents. Out on the town, you’ll spend your evenings in the company of friendly residents, celebrating with live music in warm pubs like the Svingen.
Traditional fun like jingling sleigh rides, husky sledding and nights slurping hot chocolate around a camp fire in a “lavvo” complete the experience – at prices that won’t stretch the pocket book. While pulse-quickening activities like snow rafting (being dragged up the sheerest of slopes on an inflatable raft, then released) and extreme tobogganing keep everyone on their toes. Previous years have seen a Christmas Fair and a magic show, for a break from all the adrenalin.
Stay in a hotel to take meal preparations off your plate, with many throwing a festive feast on the 25th. Otherwise, hunker down in one of the local cabins ‒ some will even provide trees for you to decorate together.
