Niseko Half Term holidays
If your half term breaks coincides with the Chinese New Year in Niseko, you’re in for a treat. Chilled life here has a vibrant upgrade, with past years seeing the resort making some noise during the day with local taiko drummers and opportunities to get up close and personal with pro sumo wrestlers. Once the mountain closes for the evening, the celebrations really begin – if you’re travelling with children, many of the activities are set in the early afternoon, so no one’s left out of the party. Popular events have been scavenger hunts and pony rides at the Vale Niseko, proving a roaring success with little ones.
Not to worry if you come a different week, as there are still plenty of interesting activities around from meditation classes and snow tubing to winter rafting.
Whether or not you see in the Chinese New Year, the mountain’s bound to be amazing. While the snow tends to fall thick and fast from December, it’s usually calmed down a bit by February meaning a milder, more child-friendly climate.
Best of all, Japanese school holidays don’t clash with the UK or Europe, so the snow’s temporarily gifted over to international skiers with the usual promise of shorter queues, more peaceful slopes and a holiday that’s altogether wonderfully laid-back.
