San Cassiano New Year holidays
This might be a tiny, idyllic looking village, but that's not to say it can't party in the New Year. On the 31st December, a big open-air celebration usually takes place on Strada Micurá de Rü with live bands and dancing.
Elsewhere, restaurants host gala dinners, which with this region's reputation for fabulous food rarely disappoint. There have been some fantastic suppers in the mountain huts in recent years, with skidoos and sleds to get you back to the village at the end of the night.
Whether it's watching the sun set on New Year's Eve or rise on New Year's Day – or both – the colour changing Dolomites is a sight you won't forget in a hurry.
San Cassiano's festive atmosphere continues after Christmas to the 1st of January with the charming market stalls of the Paisc da Nadé in the village centre.
As for the skiing, the excellent artificial snow cover of the Dolomiti Superski makes it a super choice for early season holidays, whether or not Mother Nature's been generous with natural snow.
