Pila Half Term holidays
Being a high altitude resort with a good reputation for snowfall at this time of year, Pila should be in tip top condition during February half term.
As many Brits head towards the French and Austrian Alps for their holidays, Pila is quite popular among school trip organisers – not just to avoid the crowds but also because it’s a cheap ski-in ski-out resort with good beginner slopes.
As it’s a choice destination for school trips, this is also a super place to bring the clan, whether you’re beginner or experienced skiers. Because there are usually a lot of learners, much of the advanced piste tends to be traffic free so while beginners are making friends at ski school, those with more ski miles can roam the reds. The nearby resorts of Courmayeur and La Thuile are only a short distance away and are included in the Aosta ski pass if you fancy a change of scenery for a day or two.
Off the slopes, the natural ice rink in the resort should be in full swing at this time of year. Aosta is just below at the foot of the mountain and taking the 20 minute gondola trip to the town is always worth doing for something different.
