Enjoy the yuletide atmosphere as the local hotels and restaurants deck the halls to make everyone feel welcome. You’ll probably find special events organised by most hotels, many of which put on gala dinners on the day itself. There’s usually a festive buzz around the natural ice rink and bars like Bar Mion once the lifts close; try the local’s drink of choice - Bombardino - to chase the chill from the cold outdoors.
To experience a truly Italian village come to life with Christmas spirit, be sure to take the gondola down to the historic town of Aosta at some point during your stay. Head to the cathedral for a carol service or midnight mass and do a spot of last minute Christmas shopping in the stores and market stalls. The nightlife is livelier down here than in the resort, so you can always extend the day with a few winter warmers in a lively pub like the Old Distillery or Gallaghers. Round the corner from the cathedral, the main square is always buzzing, complete with a Christmas tree to make things even more festive.
