Kronplatz Christmas holidays
Escaping to the mountains is a sure-fire way of guaranteeing a white Christmas, and Kronplatz doesn’t disappoint when it comes to providing the dream festive getaway. The main plazas of the towns in the Putertal valley are usually decorated with beautiful lights and trees, whilst Brunico tends to host its very own Christkindlmarkt. The market’s a perfect place to browse (ideally with a glühwein or hot chocolate in hand), sourcing some interesting stocking-fillers including authentic Ladin gifts, sweets and souvenirs. On the big day, tourists and locals of Valdaora are usually treated to the thrilling Fire and Ice ski show. Activities such as skating on an outdoor rink and taking sleigh rides (complete with cosy blanket) are also available throughout the valley and are sure to generate a real festive buzz.
Up on the mountain, the skiing is pretty great at this time of year, with plenty of snowmaking to combat any ice patches. The slopes towards Valdaora get sunshine in the morning and with most of these being blue, beginners tend to get pleasant conditions to learn in. On particularly cold days, stick to the lower runs around San Vigilio while those in the treeline are best in poor visibility.
