Christmas is very much at home in the Dolomites and you’ve got to do the fairy-tale white Christmas thing at least once. To see what the snow has been like in previous years, cast your eyes over the historic conditions to the right. Weather is of course central to the perfect ski holiday and the tree-lined routes give you some good cover and visibility when cloudy. If you do get a bout of little snowfall, it shouldn’t be a huge problem as the lower temperatures mean snow canons are at their peak of efficiency at this time of year. All you need to ask for this Christmas is the Dolomiti Superski pass which’ll give you access right the way round the Sella Ronda and beyond to 1200km of skiing.
The traditional village Christmas market usually has lots of little trinkets and wood carvings; a refined craft within the Dolomites. The seasonal smells will get your mouth-watering for some hot food, mulled wine or restaurant dishes. The Michelin starred La Stua de Michil will give you a good introduction to a Ladin dish in a cosy atmosphere if you fancy splashing out. Hotels are usually quite good at having some kind of organised gala evening with a dinner, which might interest a group or family.
