Cortina New Year holidays
If you like to celebrate New Year’s Eve in style but prefer a traditional and attractive town over the purpose built party resorts of Tignes and Val Thorens, Cortina might be just the ticket.
The resort is large enough to accommodate all kinds of groups, whether it’s the wild young crowd dancing the night away in the underground bar Bilbos, or couples enjoying a good bottle of wine in a restaurant like El Toulà. Everyone usually gathers together in the main square on the ‘Corsa Italia’ to watch the fireworks at midnight, and the backdrop of the beautiful Dolomite mountains will make this an unforgettable experience.
By late December the ski area is normally up and running well, and if you check the historic conditions to the right, you’ll see that previous years have seen average snow depths of about 100cm at this time of year. If you’re worried about snow conditions, it’s worth heading up to the Faloria side of the resort and then skiing over to the Cristallo area – the Forcella Staunies gondola at the top takes you up to the lofty height of 2919m, and you’re likely to have better snow cover up here (this area is best suited to intermediates and experienced skiers).
If you’re planning on enjoying a few glasses of bubbly on NYE then you probably want to stay somewhere fairly central so you can stumble home easily at the end of the night... We have some exceptionally well located hotels listed below, to book one of these or for some advice, call our friendly team on the number above.
