Samoens Easter holidays
With school holidays in full swing, Easter is a cracking time in Samoëns – a great resort that caters fantastically for families. Take advantage of the north-facing slopes and their longer-lasting snow (like the pistes above Saix Plateau) before lapping up the warmer weather (we love the deck chairs at L'Igloo in the sunshine).
Although not as high as some of the bigger resorts, Samoens’ proximity to Mont Blanc gives the area its own microclimate and the snow coverage is usually pretty generous. 80% of the whole area faces north, which is good news for snow preservation as this is where the mountains are most shaded. If in doubt you can always make use of Grand Massif’s hefty coverage and head up to Flaine for more snow sure slopes – at 2500m, Les Grandes Platières is the highest point in the area.
Away from the slopes there’s plenty to keep busy with. Great outdoor activities include sledging; ice skating, ice climbing, dog sledging and thrilling helicopter flights. There’s oodles to see and do around the town -discover the beautiful village and its history; take guided tours and visit the weekly market to get absorbed in local life.
