Megeve New Year holidays
If you don’t want to break the usual tradition but fancy a week of Christmassy skiing, spend Christmas at home and extend the festivities in Megeve over New Year. With cobbled streets, snow topped chalets and horse drawn sleighs taking you from a to b instead of your usual taxi, things can’t get more ‘winter wonderland’. To top it off, the famous Christmas tree is usually still lit up at Place d’Eglise, so you won’t have to beat away any post-Christmas blues just yet...
The legendary Club de Jazz Les Cinq Rues is the place to be on New Year’s Eve or you can toast in the new with a cocktail at Les Caves (both are really popular so try and get in early!). There’s usually WiFi at Bar des Alpes too, if Facebook greetings come midnight are a necessity... Whichever venue you fancy, it’s always a good idea to stick near the main square as this is where the magic happens at midnight – recent years have seen some awesome firework displays.
With one of the most beautiful ski areas around, the skiing makes a fabulous start to the New Year. Although the natural conditions tend to be pretty good, there are over 650 snow cannons serving as back up.
