Les Menuires New Year holidays
Kick off your New Year in the best possible way with a mountain getaway to Les Menuires. In previous years a big concert has been held in the town centre with mulled wine and hot chocolates served from ice bars. Experience the traditional torchlight descent by the French ski instructors before fireworks tinsel the skies at midnight. For a quiet après head to L’Original Café, or chill out in the Piano Bar Le Kube. Head to one of the two nightclubs in town for an evening of partying – Le Leeberty is a classic dance-floor discothèque, or Le New Pop is a modern club which features DJs.
The snow is known to be great at this time of year so conditions should be marvellous for all abilities. Esteemed ski schools offer private or group lessons for kids or adults. There’s a great selection of gentle green runs for beginners to get to grips on including the long ‘La Violette’ run down from the first gondola. A massive range of blues and reds cover the mountains so intermediates can make it over to Val Thorens, Meribel and Courchevel if they like – runs down from the Col de la Chambre are quickly accessible for excellent red run choices like the ‘Alpage’. Experts will love a selection of gnarly black runs to be discovered across the legendary 3 Valleys like the ‘Masse’ or ‘Les Bosses’ in Courchevel.
Chalets and hotels have excellent facilities and will usually put on special New Year gala meals fit for a king.
