Les Carroz New Year holidays
If you’re looking for a place to ski in the New Year, get to the square at Carroz for a countdown in French, lashings of vin chaud and firework displays that light up the Grand Massif.
With an impressive snow record from early December, the white stuff is likely to be in good supply for your New Year’s break and if not, there’s always artificial snowmaking and the higher slopes around Flaine to all but guarantee some powder. As one of the most popular times to ski, the Grand Massif is buzzing at New Year time and Les Carroz is a relaxed base for easy access to the fun.
Yes, ok, you’re not going to find the clubbing capital of Europe in this traditional village, but that’s half the draw for families and couples, who will have a heart-warming night, counting down with the crowds in the square. To start the night right, tuck in to the hearty winter warmers at L'Ours Blanc or a touch of gourmet at Aux Petits Oignons (just round the corner from the square) to the sound of live music, and owner Sylvain’s well-wishes. For afters, head to the Carpe Diem for rounds of local “cidre” till the sun comes up.
As they always say, “nothing ventured, nothing gained”, so grit your teeth and say bonjour to the New Year on a heli-ski trip down an untouched (and terrifying) Italian or Swiss peak- we doubt friends at home can beat that!
