Les Arcs Half Term holidays
Conditions are more than likely to be incredible at this time of year – check out the snow history to the right for more details. The tourist office boasts guaranteed snow in the vast and legendary Paradiski, where a massive 70% of the area is higher than 2000m.
You’re spoilt for choice with some great ski and snowboard schools including Evolution 2 and Arc Adventures. Book everyone into group lessons that match their ability or opt for private tuition as a group or family if you all want to learn and improve together. Some of the beginner lifts are free, so it might be worth waiting until the instructor deems learners ready for the mountains before you buy a pass (make sure you book lessons well in advance though). There are magic carpets in the main villages and beginners can practice in peace in the ski tranquille areas. More confident snow lovers can find good runs around Peisey Vallandry and the area has powder, steeps and moguls galore for experts. Head to the Apocalypse parc at 1600 or seek out the rails at the bottom of the Cabri chairlift for some freestyle action. In previous years, ski passes for children under 6 have been free – keep your eyes peeled to see if the offer’s still on and you might save some money! For children not yet old enough for the slopes, there’s a childcare centre in each village: La Cachette in 1600, ESF in 1800, The Cariboo's Club in 1950 and Garderie in 2000 where little ones are looked after in a safe and fun environment.
Activities off the slopes include snow scooting and dog sledding. There’s a lovely natural ice rink in Arc 2000 and the ice cave is well worth a visit if you fancy something different. The Rodeo park here is a must – hop on the Arcabulle chairlift or the Transarc gondola to toboggan 3,000m of 400m vertical. Cinéma Le Savoy is open throughout the week with extra screenings in bad weather.
