Ruka Half Term holidays
Ruka is an excellent choice for half term skiing as Finnish school half terms are usually spread over different weeks, minimising crowds on any given week. Even in peak weeks the slopes are normally refreshingly quiet and long lift queues rare. This resort is also a great place to bring children for the school break. Kids under 6 traditionally ski for free in certain areas and there are also designated zones for sledging and tobogganing on the mountainside. The Rosa & Rudolf adventure zone is bound to be a hit, letting you ski past herds of reindeer and even through the middle of a traditional Finnish house! February is generally a lighter, warmer month than December and January and often offers the best snow conditions of the season.
The fun doesn’t end once you leave the fell – see what Rudolf and Co. get up to after Christmas, or book a husky ride together for an unforgettable experience of the surroundings. If you need a change from the cold outdoors, the Angry Birds activity park is always a winner as well as the Happy Family indoor activity house. You’ll have to drag teens away from the Reili Café, which has games and wifi for that all important homework/social media presence...
