Whistler New Year holidays
The way Whistler manages to keep every kind of visitor (and we mean every type) happy at New Years is mind-boggling, but year on year, you can be sure that this place will see out the year in spectacular fashion.
The weekly Fire & Ice Show is traditionally cranked up a notch on NYE, when crowds gather at Skier's Plaza to watch some of the world's best freestylers do their thing through hoops of fire, with live DJ, drinks and probably the best firework & light shows you'll ever clap eyes on. Tickets for the ice rink sell fast - as do party venues like Garibaldi Lift Co., where the celebrations have become the stuff of legend.
On top of this, the town usually hosts an alcohol-free family event, which features a party for kids and an early countdown for those who will be snoring sweetly by midnight.
On no account is a big night compulsory, hit the hay and rise early for a New Year's day skiing the best trails on earth, push the boat out with some heli-skiing or head to the Peak 2 Peak gondola for dizzying sights over the Rockies.
