Fernie Christmas holidays
Fernie's lovely locals make the area an absolute delight over Christmas, with enough events to keep things magic for children but not so much to take the focus off the main reason you're here: that seriously good ski area.
If you're staying with sprogs, see if the Lizard Creek Lodge are still taking bookings for their Santa Brunch, where little ones can meet the main man and receive a photo and gift. As with the rest of the season, Griz Kids should have some terrific events in the evenings, usually including movie and craft nights. Night skiing on the Mighty Moose tends to continue over the holidays - a gentle groomed green near the base area, it always has a fabulous atmosphere at this time of year.
Our favourite part - look out for Santa on the slopes over Christmas week, where there's usually the opportunity to ski with him before he heads down to the base area for photos in the afternoon.
If Christmas day brings its traditionally fabulous snow conditions (the ski area was once called Snow Valley for a reason), you'll find the locals doing what they love best - enjoying those mountains.
