Zell am See Easter holidays
With history of a well-established snow base come Easter, comprehensive snowmaking facilities and temperatures averaging above freezing, this beautiful town makes a splendid choice for some late season sun and snow. Although not a glacial resort itself, the lift pass allows access to the Kitzsteinhorn glacier in Kaprun, a mere 15 minute bus journey away. The traditional Easter market in the town centre is a much visited attraction and local hotels and businesses usually get well into the spirit. Schmidolin, the friendly dragon, is a popular alternative to the Easter bunny and is sure to keep young children entertained all day. The weather at Easter is perfect for some al fresco dining, and Zell is sure to leave you satisfied. At the peak of the Schmittenhohe, the Schmitten Café’s Glockner Terrace is the perfect place to unwind in the sun with a drink and some fantastic views of the neighbouring mountain ranges. Slightly lower down, the marvellous Erlhof restaurant boasts an Italian and Austrian inspired menu alongside a comprehensive wine cellar- all of which can be enjoyed overlooking the lake.
The hotels in Zell are beautiful this time of year and you’re assured breath-taking views, whether you’d rather gaze up at the mountains or over the freshly thawed lake. Full or half board hotel stay will let you enjoy a truly relaxing Easter weekend and the ever popular Schnapps Hans Alm Bar at the peak of the Schmitten often hosts an 'Easter Bunny's Party'. The rabbit ears are optional, but a good time is assured!
The resorts proximity to Munich and Salzburg airport means that if you’re flying over Easter, you’re only a few hours travel time from your destination already. Those choosing to drive will be encouraged by emptier roads and better conditions at this time of year.
