Neustift Easter holidays
The brilliant thing about staying in Neustift at Easter is that if local slopes on the Elfer are looking a bit green, the nearby Stubai glacier (Austria’s biggest glacier ski area), should still be gloriously white – the slopes tend to stay open into June. While temperatures on the glacier tend to be bleak earlier in the season, spring’s usually a lot milder which makes for much more comfortable skiing.
If you pick a clear day to spend on the glacier, have lunch with a view at the Jochdohle which claims to be the highest mountain restaurant in Tyrol, then take the Schaufeljoch panorama lift and walk up to the viewing platform for a 360 degree sights of the Austrian and Italian Alps from 3210m.
If you like your week to feature a mix of different experiences, there are some lovely winter hiking trails, with huts and hamlets to explore along the way. Neustift leisure centre has warm indoor and outdoor pools with fabulous views of the mountains and the city of Innsbruck’s only half an hour’s drive away for a spot of shopping and sightseeing.
