Neustift Christmas holidays
Neustift’s location makes it a great base for a Christmas of skiing, local traditions and quality time in the village. Quiet and typically Austrian, Neustift-Dorf itself is gorgeously festive when it snows, a friendly base for families, couples and anyone needing a break from the commercialised Christmas back home.
As well as the easy-going local ski area, the resort’s one of the closest to the Stubai glacier, where the snow starts piling up as early as October. If you do make the 20 minute journey to the glacier, look out for attractions like the Ice Cave, which make a good Christmas treat when you need a break from the slopes (do layer up before you leave as it gets very nippy on the glacier at this time of year).
The resort’s also half an hour or so from the city of Innsbruck, where Christmas markets bring the sound of carols, the smell of fresh donuts and the sights of stocking-fillers galore to the town throughout December.
