Montafon New Year holidays
Welcoming in the New Year is no modest affair in Montafon, as many of the restaurants and hotels are known to celebrate the occasion with speciality menus; often with a generous amount of courses.
New Year’s Day traditionally culminates with the Alpine Sound Fireworks event, which includes live music performances and a pyrotechnic extravaganza. The villages in the valley usually pulse with activity as partygoers descend upon their numerous bars for drinks and dancing. Ausrutscher in Gachurn is a particular favorite amongst locals and tourists, as is the Haller Lounge in the heart of Schruns.
With generous amounts of snow usually covering its North-Easterly slopes, the choice and quality of skiing the Silvretta Montafon at this time should be ideal. That said, the resort’s arsenal of snow cannons is on constant standby to provide a top-up of powder if needed. Keep the celebrations going on the piste by stopping for drinks at one of the many mountain bars (the Obwaldhütte on Schafberg has a particular reputation for shots...), and with the aid of some Dutch courage, accomplish your New Year’s resolution to tackle one of the resort’s Black Scorpions.
