Galtur Half Term holidays
If you’re planning on whisking the kids to the mountains during the week off school, you’ve found a good resort in Galtur which is one of our favourites in Austria’s for families.
The ski area is cleverly divided into 6 sections for different ages and abilities – young children can be looked after in a fun and safe environment and learn the basics of skiing in Zwergerlwelt while older members of the family set off to enjoy Adventureland (fun zones for little skiers with fairytale and wildlife themes), Actionpark (freestyling, moguls and speed track), Piste Paradise (the pisted ski area), Heroes Kingdom (off piste) and High and Nordic (cross country). There are two main ski schools in the resort – the Silvretta Galtur ski school and the Snow Alpin ski school. Children and anyone taking lessons usually get fasttracked at most of the major lifts – so they shouldn’t be spending ages stuck in queues even during one of the busiest weeks. Conditions tend to be at their peak at this time of year too – and with terrain above 2,000m you’re likely to enjoy some incredible snow.
This is a resort that pulls out all stops to keep families happy – children’s activities like treasure hunts usually take place in the child-orientated areas and there’s also the chance to get tickets for the weekly night skiing session on a 2.2km floodlit run.
Most accommodation is just a few minutes’ walk from the free bus shuttle that takes you to the lifts in Wirl – so you shouldn’t have to trek too long reach the pistes.
