Filzmoos Half Term holidays
With wide, forgiving nursery slopes, learner lifts and a family-friendly village, Filzmoos is a perfect and unintimidating place to bring beginners at Half Term. This is when the animated Snow Festival traditionally takes place, drawing skiers from as far as Ramsau to the base of the Grossberg chairlift for the Grand Ski Show, in which instructors, legends from Mountain Rescue and young freestylers schuss their stuff. With no end to the fun and frolics, previous half terms have also seen a special “Carneval“ kid‘s disco, karaoke shows and curling tournaments.
The ski schools cater spectacularly for children: with the Bögei Ski School running a fun park, and Skischule Filzmoos putting on quirky additions like treasure hunts and medal ceremonies. Squirts as young as 2 are included in their courses (starting with games out in the snow), and the kindergartens will entertain non-skiing nippers while you venture further afield.
You don’t have to be under 4ft to appreciate the learner friendliness of Filz - the beginner slopes in the centre of the village are wide and quiet (even at this time of year) and the learner’s chairlift will save you from having to tackle a draglift on your first day.
The immediate 30km area may not keep a seasoned skier busy all week, but more proficient skiers can tap into the 760km of the Ski Amadé.
