Soldeu & El Tarter Half Term holidays
If the thought of lift queues makes you shiver more than skiing without your socks on, you’ll appreciate the quieter slopes of Soldeu and El Tarter. Andorran schools don’t tend to break until March, so Grandvalira’s extensive slopes are usually the reign of British holiday makers who are willing to trade an extra hour on their transfer for low prices and super quiet slopes.
The ski schools here have long appreciated that when you’re learning to ski, mono-syllable instructions just won’t cut it. The country’s now renowned for having some of the best Brit-run ski classes around. If you’re here with youngsters, children from 3 can enjoy indoor and outdoor play with the Snow Garden group while ages 6 and up can join in the main classes in the extensive Espiolets beginners area. They’ll love the circus themed obstacles at El Tarter’s Bababoom Circus circuit. Tots who aren’t yet ready to ski are well taken care of with a nursery in each village for ages 2-4 years, while the Grau Roig kindergarten looks after children as young as 1.
For more experienced skiers and snowboarders, Snowpark El Tarter (with the Pyrenees’ longest line of features) and the Encamp freeride area should more than suffice, if Grandvalira’s 200km+ of skiing doesn’t do the trick…
The fun doesn’t stop when the lifts close, with husky rides, snowmobile tours and snowshoeing just three of an arm-long list of activities. The après ski is friendly and cheap – with Fatty’s in Soldeu and El Tartar’s L'Abarset two popular venues.
