The Schafberg Steam Train has been in operation since 1893 and is the steepest steam cog railway in Austria.
The train climbs around the mountain from St. Wolfgang to the 1,783 meter mountain summit. From the peak there are stunning panoramic views of the Salzkammergut. There’s also a restaurant, hotel and cafe at the top offering food and shelter. A personal tip: sit on opposite sides of the train on your journey up and down to maximise the view!
The Wolfgangsee ferries sail across the lake throughout the day. You can hop on and off the boats at each of the seven landing spots.
Use the available timetables to plan your day and get the most out of the walking and exploring routes around the Wolfgangsee.
