The Tankavaara Gold Village makes a wonderfully unique activity when in Finland for your holiday. 30km south of Saariselka on the E75 road the village offers the gold mining experience. You will be able to pan for actual gold deposits with some direction and you are allowed to keep what you find. In the café you can actually pay with what you find as they accept real gold! The international gold museum is worth a wonder round as well as over to the goldsmith workshop. They sometimes have a particular even going on given the time of year which is also worth checking out. The Gold Panning Championships, for example, might be something you never expected to find yourself at.
