Ski hotels in America
It’s no surprise that America has some amazing ski hotels, from luxurious ones with every bell and whistle to humbler ones still wonderfully welcoming and homely. Find them right on the mountainside, in the hub of the action downtown or somewhere between the two – all providing a comfortable place to stay while you enjoy some of the best ski terrain on earth.
Ski in, ski out American hotels
When you’ve crossed the pond to ski America, staying moments from the mountainside helps ensure you spend every second possible enjoying the slopes. Some American resorts are split into two areas, one at the foot of the lifts and another down in the original mountain town. The former’s definitely a winner for keen skiers and families, and there are nearly always excellent transport links between the two if you want to explore.
Luxury ski hotels in the USA
America knows how to spoil its skiers, with high end hotel facilities you’ll be writing home about. We’re talking about incredible spas, fine-dining restaurants, celebrity-frequented bars and ski valets to help you into your skis each morning…
Make your hotel one in an exclusive resort – like Vail or Aspen – and you’ll have the likes of piano bars, designer shops and art galleries to explore during your time off the slopes.
American hotel food & drink
Unlike Europe where a lot of hotels come with a Half Board package, most hotels in America’s ski resorts are B&B or room-only.
This lets you really get to know the resort, by trying a different local restaurant each night or finding your favourite and returning again and again. A lot of hotels have an on-site restaurant (or two) if you prefer to dine closer to home, and most will provide an all-American breakfast for an extra charge if it’s not already included – pancakes, waffles, muffins, omelettes, the delicious lot.
Some rooms are kitted out with kitchen facilities if you prefer to put together your own snacks or meals during your stay, and there are usually shops like Whole Foods and Safeway nearby for when it comes to buying ingredients.
The cost of eating out in American ski resorts is usually less than you’d spend in France or Switzerland, and more like what you’d spend on the high street back home. And there’s usually tons to choose between, including favourite chains like the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co, and cool indie eateries serving fondue, curry, BBQ and almost anything else you could think of.
