Overview: hotel description: Ylläs Log Cabins description

Our Ylläs Log Cabins make a perfect base for your holiday, offer a charming and cosy retreat in the Finnish resort of Ylläs combining rustic log cabin aesthetics with modern comforts. The log cabins are set around the village of Äkäslompolo - some are close to the centre while others are more remote, amongst the snow covered trees. The cabins range from around 250-1000 metres (5-30 min walk) to the the main excursion meeting point at the Akas Hotel, which is near the centre of the village.

Cosy log cabins

Wake up to blankets of snow surrounding your very own log cabin. It's one of the most authentic ways to experience Finnish Lapland. Each cabin is unique, some are built from round pine logs, others are more modern and are made using flat planed log. They all adjoin another cabin and can be terraced, end of terrace or semi-detached. All of the cabins are equipped with all the modern amenities you'd need for a comfortable stay. Up here in the arctic circle they've mastered heating and insulating the cabins - plus each one has its own private sauna and fireplace, great for warming up after a day of exploring Ylläs. Many of the cabins also offer stunning views of the surrounding wilderness. although each cabin varies in location -with some of the cabins being close to the centre ofresort, while others are set in the more remote areas of Ylläs. They also vary in size and capacity, making them suitable for couples, families, and larger groups.

Eat in or dine out

Our cabins are available self-catered or with an optional half board upgrade. They're all well-equipped with kitchen facilities and a dining table - making them a great choice for families looking to stay self-catered. There's an excellent, well-stocked supermarket in the village centre, along with cafes, shops and restaurants. You'll also have the choice to upgrade to half board, where you can enjoy hearty buffet style breakfasts and dinners in the Akas Hotel restaurant.

Artic activities

Lapland is one of the best places in the world to witness the Northern Lights and staying in the Ylläs Log Cabins during the winter months provides an excellent opportunity to witness this natural phenomenon. The cabins are also a great base to enjoy our optional extra activities such as snowmobiling, reindeer and husky rides and snow shoeing. Plus after a day of exploring, you can unwind in your cabin's private sauna or by the fireplace.

This gorgeous Lapland resort (pronounced “U-las”) has welcomed skiers since the 1930s and is the biggest of the 35 ski areas in Finland, home to the country’s longest slope, the 3km Jättipitkä run (which translates to ‘enormously long’!). The resort is split into two villages on either side of the region’s highest “fell” - a smooth mountain rising above the treeline. Both villages have remained true to their roots - Ylläsjärvi in the south and Äkäslompolo in the north – and both are authentic, b...
With 63km of downhill slopes, the skiing is fairly compact although over 300km of designated tracks make this one of the best cross-country destinations in the world. The ski schools meet on both sides of the mountain and speak excellent English with group lessons normally having small class sizes to give a personal feel. Early intermediates will love the wide, cruising runs which are perf...

The focus is more on relaxation and entertainment away from the slopes of which there’s more than enough to keep all ages very happy. The Akäs hotel is most popular for a few drinks with a dance floor and club inside, while the restaurants in the resort serve all kinds of local delicacies – reindeer and freshly caught fish are both highly recommend...
