This package holiday to Ylläs Log Cabins in Yllas, Finland / Lapland departs Sunday 5th January 2025, for a 7 night stay on a "self catering" board basis. A local tourist tax (Taxe de Sejour or Kurtaxe) is levied by many councils in European ski resorts. It varies by standard and type of accommodation and is age dependent, so not everyone is charged. It's not included in the basic price of your holiday and is usually paid locally. For reference, the average charged in winter 2024 was between €1 and €3 per person, per night.

This gorgeous Lapland resort (pronounced “U-las”) has welcomed skiers since the 1930s and is the biggest of the 35 ski areas in Finland, home to the country’s longest slope, the 3km Jättipitkä run (which translates to ‘enormously long’!). The resort is split into two villages on either side of the region’s highest “fell” - a smooth mountain rising above the treeline. Both villages have remained true to their roots - Ylläsjärvi in the south and Äkäslompolo in the north – and both are authentic, b...
With 63km of downhill slopes, the skiing is fairly compact although over 300km of designated tracks make this one of the best cross-country destinations in the world. The uncrowded, perfectly groomed slopes are a beginner’s dream and make learning to ski a fun and relaxing experience. The ski schools meet on both sides of the mountain and speak excellent English with group lessons normally having small class sizes to give a personal feel. Early intermediates will love the wide, cruising runs which are perf...
Both villages are sleepy and traditional so while there are nice places to go for a drink, those looking for a European party scene might be somewhat disappointed. The focus is more on relaxation and entertainment away from the slopes of which there’s more than enough to keep all ages very happy. The Akäs hotel is most popular for a few drinks with a dance floor and club inside, while the restaurants in the resort serve all kinds of local delicacies – reindeer and freshly caught fish are both highly recommend...

"Home from home"

Michelle, Cambridgeshire

We had such a great Christmas here that we’ve already booked New Year’s Eve next season! The cabins are comfy and in good reach of the amenities in the resort. We self-catered - I brought a suitcase of food and drink from home and did a shop when we arrived. We had no problems there, the kitchen facilities were fine. A real home from home. If they could put a Christmas tree and decorations there for Christmas it would have been perfect.

"Lovely, cosy cabins"

The cabins are lovely! Really cosy and warm. I loved everything about ours, which had all the facilities we needed. My husband and I slept upstairs while the in-laws were downstairs. I felt a bit claustrophobic up against the wall so moved to one of the other bedrooms up there, which wasn’t a problem – the only thing was that getting down the ladder could be a bit precarious in the middle of the night..! It took about fifteen to twenty minutes to walk to the main hotel where you meet for trips etc. Trying to find your little street could be tricky as the signposting was poor (we walked past our cabin once when we were coming back late in the evening) but we soon got used to it. It was such a wonderful week that I almost don’t want to go back in case the next stay doesn’t match it!
