The apartment was clean and tidy, a little dated but reflected with a good price. There was enough room for three of us and all our gear. The kitchen had all the utensils and a decent oven. The beds where suitable, the mattresses were made of foam so not the most comfortable. The view on the balcony was partial... + more

Espace Killy ski area Fantastic après ski High altitude skiing

Tignes is somewhere you can ski longer, higher and further than most other resorts in the Alps. Owing its snow-reliability to the Grande Motte glacier, the local ski area is joined with Val d’Isere’s to form the mammoth Espace Killy - intermediates will have a whale of a time here. Choose between 5 different villages, whether your priority is convenience, cosiness or cheap accommodation. Tignes also has one of the most famous New Year parties in the Alps.

Tignes ski resort (pronounce it 'Teens') is one half of the stunning Espace Killy, one of the biggest linked ski areas in France. Because of its high-altitude terrain and access to the Grande Motte glacier, the resort is open both earlier and later in the season than many others and often the lifts are running for short periods of summer skiing. Predominantly purpose built, the resort itself is divided into 5 villages, each different in its own way but all well linked by lifts and bus services. The main area...
With varied pistes at a high altitude, the ski area has impressive powdered terrain for skiers and boarders alike. Beginners can practice on the nursery slopes at Le Lac and Le Lavachet, where you'll find gentle, quiet runs that are accessible via free beginners' lifts. Le Bollin at Val Claret is another conveniently situated green and Grattalu is a lovely wide blue for those wanting to build confidence. Tignes is incredible if you ski at an intermediate level, with miles of powdery blue and red runs includi...
While it's said that those who appreciate Tignes do so for the serious skiing over the après ski, this doesn't do justice to the fact that Tignes' 60+ bars/pubs and 4 night clubs provide some of the best nightlife in the Alps. All villages have their fair share of places to eat and drink, and with a shuttle bus service running 24 hours, you can enjoy your evening without worrying about the journey back. Jam bar is small but with a great atmosphere and Loop bar pretty much offers it all: with live sport, world c...

"Apartment"

The apartment was clean and tidy, a little dated but reflected with a good price. There was enough room for three of us and all our gear. The kitchen had all the utensils and a decent oven. The beds where suitable, the mattresses were made of foam so not the most comfortable. The view on the balcony was partially blocked by other apartment blocks, but you still had a good view of the slopes and mountains. The slopes themselves were a five minute walk to get to, and there were plenty of shops and restaurants in the vicinity. All in all Good apartment to stay in if you want a cheep holiday but still hit the slopes.

The studio did the job, it was basic and not overly clean when we got there (I walked around without shoes on and my feet went black) but I gave it a sweep and it was ok. For the two of us, having a four person studio was perfect – all we wanted was somewhere to crash out and sleep and as long as you went with that in mind it wouldn’t be a problem. We did a mix of cooking in and eating out, the kitchen area was fine and Val Claret has everything you need (there’s a good shop opposite the apartments). The location was the best I’ve had on a ski holiday and the closest I’ve been to ski in, ski out. Getting onto the slopes was simple with the lift 150m away.

"Functional apartment, does what it says on the tin. Fantastic location!"

Our apartment was OK, it wasn’t brilliant (looked a bit tired) but it was functional and clean. It consisted of 2 beds and a sofa bed, so wasn’t that big, but it did the trick. The location was absolutely brilliant as you go out the back door and can ski straight down – the ski lift is right outside the back of the apartments. You’re also about a 5 minute walk from the shops. In hindsight we would probably have gone catered / part catered as then you don’t have to worry about food or clearing up. It would possibly work out cheaper too, considering the costs of eating out!

"Christmas in Val Claret - Nice, functional, perfect loc!"

We found our apartment quite good, not very modern but perfectly clean – nice and functional. Liked the kitchen which had everything you needed, it really was a mini kitchen made up of a hob and fridge in a small area, but we didn’t need anything more. The bathroom was a simple white suite, always with hot water. We did have one issue with the electric but once we’d worked out the switches it was fine. We found we had enough room for 3 of us. As you walk in, there’s a bunk bed down the side (enough space for suitcases under) and then the kitchen and lounge came up next where the sofa folded out at the bottom like a draw to reveal a small double. There was a door that slides across but we didn’t use it. The apartment looked out onto other Val Claret apartments and you could see the runs behind, it was nice to sit watching people ski down while we were having breakfast. We also had a little balcony. The location was perfect! We were above the Sherpa newsagents where we bought food to cook in the evenings and there was a pizza place next door where we ate a few times (had nice fondue there on Christmas Eve). You could easily get a lift down to the reception area. When you came out of the apartments, there was one run close by that you could reach via an alleyway or you could walk to the lift that takes you to the lake/ Le Lac (by the native American themed café) and ski under the tunnel all the way down. As you come into the apartment block, the first level is shops and then you can walk through the shops to get to the boot room. We had one locker (accessed with our room key) and it was big enough to hold all of our skis. This system worked quite well because it kept the snow out of the apartment area. Overall, just what we needed, not 5* but perfectly fine.
