Vail last minute
Last minute bookings can be one of the best feelings in the world; finding the cheapest deal, having only a few weeks until you leave, and going out for a blast on the slopes. If you’re undecided on where to go, then Vail will be a great bet.
The snow here is periodically some of the best. The lofty altitude of between 2,476 and 3,527 metres means the temperature is generally colder than many lower equivalents, tending to mean the snow lasts longer before turning into slush. With an average of a staggering 9 metres of natural snowfall per season, and an average of about 300 sunny days per year mean that if you book late, the chance of getting great snow as well as an opportunity of a tan is likely. If you do however manage to head there at a time with poor conditions, the artificial snow making capabilities cover 461 acres of their terrain, allowing you to still get out onto the mountain. If you want to check out previous years’ snowfalls, monthly snowfall trends or the forecast, look at our snow report, history and forecast pages to allow you to plan when will be best to go.
Being America’s second largest ski area, Vail’s sheer scale can appeal to those looking for a last minute deal. With such a variety of terrain, you can be sure to find a run to suit the time of year and weather you experience when on your holiday. For those warmer days, head over to Blue Sky Basin, where the tree lined runs are north facing, reducing the time that the sun is on the snow and generally meaning better conditions. Alternatively, make your way to one of Vail’s parks, perfect on sunny days for trying out some of the features or sunbathing whilst watching other people’s attempts. For those colder days, head over to the Back Bowls for some south facing slopes, or stick close to the well-marked runs on the Frontside to be within close distance to a warming hot chocolate in town or in one of the mountainside restaurants. If the weather gets too bad however, the numerous bars around will provide you with ample entertainment – head to the Red Lion for one of the favourite apres destinations, or Garfinkels if you fancy people watching from the patio area.
In relation to accommodation, apartments offer the opportunity for a cheaper and more independent trip, perfect for the more inquisitive traveller as they ensure you explore the resort in search of restaurants or food markets. Hotels and chalets can provide a more stress free experience, especially if booked with half board, as someone else cooks most of your meals for you, meaning you won’t have to step foot in the kitchen. For an even more stress free experience, why not book a package including flights, transfers and accommodation, taking all the stresses out of your last minute holiday. If however, you want to organise your own transport, we do also offer just accommodation.
