Overview: chalet description: The Backstage Chalet description

As one of Zermatt's most exclusive luxury chalets, The Backstage Chalet is one of a kind.

Starting with a traditional 1940`s Chalet the leading Swiss Architect Heinz Julen has cleverly modernised and extended the building to create a stunning contemporary triplex apartment sleeping up to 11 guests in five en-suite double bedrooms.

The work undertaken by Heinz added two floors to the original building where the extension has been constructed exclusively from local larch and features huge glass windows and, providing spectacular 360 degree panoramic view over the village and the Matterhorn.

The property has its own private entrance and elevator accessing allbut the top floor and is ideally located in a quiet residential district close to the centre of Zermatt and a short walk from the main Klein Matterhorn lift station.

The top floor of the property contains the impressive open plan living, dining and kitchen area. Natural light floods into this bright stylish space due to its glass surrounds and the high ceilings with exposed gables and beams. The fireplace adds ambience in the evenings.

The wellness area boasting a Jacuzzi and small sauna and toilet is also located on this floor. A fascinatingly small feat of engineering, Heinz has devised and built a spectacular jacuzzi accommodating 4 people comfortably. At the press of a button the ceiling opens and the jacuzzi is hydraulically lifted out above the roof from where you can take in the breath-taking 360 degree views of the village and the Matterhorn.

The chalet’s five double bedrooms are laid out over the 3rd and 2nd floors below the entertaining floor, with two of the bedrooms on the 3rd floor and three on the 2nd floor. All the bedrooms have en-suite facilities and televisions, where some of the rooms have access to balconies on either side of the building. One of the bedrooms on the 3rd floor has an extra single bed located on a mezzanine perfect for children.

The lower ground floor of the chalet contains a small private home cinema room with a further shower room. Next to this is located the ski room, with heated ski boot racks.

All the furniture and fittings of the property have been designed and manufactured in the Heinz Julen studios in Zermatt and the walls are adorned with contemporary art from Zermatt's art rooms.

The chalet can be sold on a catered or self-catered basis.

Zermatt belongs to Switzerland's Valais canton, which rubs shoulders with the Italian Alps. You'll find it surrounded by nearly a third of Europe's 4000m peaks and, most notably, right at the foot of the Matterhorn. Even if you haven't heard of this mountain, chances are you'd recognise it - national landmark of Switzerland, the inspiration for the Toblerone and a peak photographed more than any other. Besides the picturesque scenery, these mighty mountains come with a cool climate, ever-white glaciers and ...
There are 200km of runs in the local area alone and a massive 360km overall if you count the Matterhorn's Italian side. With Cervina, Zermatt forms the 'Matterhorn Ski Paradise' where SNO lovers of all abilities are blessed with high altitude terrain - and lots of it! Everyone's a winner in a ski area this big and brilliant. Still, if we had to pick where it shines, we'd say it's incredibly fantastic for intermediate and advanced level skiers and snowboarders. If you're a keen beginner, you'll love Zermatt,...
Zermatt has voted the world's best après ski resort by the World Snow Awards in the past, making it a wise choice if you want a whale of a time post-skiing. Sure – it doesn't come cheap, but you won't find better if you want quality. Across sixty bars and numerous nightclubs, you can relax, unwind and party through the night. Harry's Bar is the place to dance to cheesy pop and Papperla offers a pubby atmosphere, but you can't come to Zermatt without being tempted into the Hennu Stall (at the end of the Furi-Ze...
