Overview: hotel description: Sporthotel Berger description

Bang in the centre of Saalbach, opposite the village church, is the Sporthotel Berger. There’s a really traditional feel from top to bottom, but the owners have added their own distinctive twist to the décor too. Art Deco prints in the rooms and zebra print fabrics add a jazzy touch in the lounge bar. And then there are the staff, who go the extra mile to make you feel at home, from remembering your favourite tipple at the bar to sharing resort tips.

As for hitting the slopes, it’s a short stroll to the Schattberg gondola to get up the mountain. And when it’s time to get your après on, swing by the cosy lounge bar to sip a drink and swap ski stories. Then, later on, join the fun at the nightclub downstairs – don’t miss the weekly Elvis Presley cabaret act. Prefer something more peaceful? Give your ski legs some post-piste pampering in the wellness and enjoy a well-earned session in the sauna.

The food here is just what you need when you’re skiing all day long. There’s a big buffet spread to kick things off, with lots of hot options like sausage, bacon and eggs cooked to order. Then in the evenings, it’s more hearty fare – think bowls of stew, schnitzels and platters of roast pork.

Found in the state of Salzburg, the village of Saalbach (officially titled Saalbach-Hinterglemm) is Austria’s second most popular tourist destination for good reason. It’s connected with the adjoining village of Hinterglemm and nearby Leogang to make the expansive ‘Ski Circus’ area, the largest mountain circuit in the country. The resort has a rich history of skiing dating back to as early as 1898, and more recently it played host to the 1991 Alpine Ski World Championships. Built around a charming onion do...
If it’s your first time, there are two beginner slopes just above the main street and a choice of excellent ski and snowboard schools. If you’re ready to head up the mountain there are novice-friendly blue slopes like the run all the way down from the summit of the Bernkogel. There’s an array of scenic circuits and long pine-lined runs around the Ski Circus which are excellent for those looking to develop their abilities, making this an absolute dream for intermediates. Steeper blues and challenging red run...
To say the après ski here is electric would be an understatement! There’s a brilliant array of bars and clubs providing the resort with its buzzing reputation for incredible après. Finish off your day on the slopes at the bottom of the Bernkogel in Bäckstätt Stall with some glühwein amidst stunning mountain scenery. Be sure to make your way to the legendary Hinterhag Alm for a wild party with live music in this lively rustic venue. Bauer’s Skialm will have you dancing in your ski boots into the early hour...

"Catered for everything."

The hotel was in a good location, we’ve been there before about 3 or 4 times, before and after Covid. It doesn’t suit everybody’s taste, you know, but as a group I thought it was really great, it catered for everything really. The meal times weren’t set, it was between 7-9 in the evening which was brilliant. So it was very good I thought. The ski access is fantastic! It’s only a walk, 2 minutes if that, to one of the lifts. Of course it’s pedestrian areas so you have to walk anyway, it’s not as if you can get busses anyway. It was very good!
