If you’re aching to get away from daily life, you can’t book more of an escape than to a resort that brands itself as “in the middle of snowhere”. Salla is beautifully peaceful and a real dreamland of scenery.

The ski seasons across Finland range from November to May with Lappish areas sometimes having a slight extension to this. This isn’t somewhere you can ski different areas every day but what you will find is access to slopes all on the same mountain with pistes aimed at all level types; cruising blues, tree-lined reds and blacks including the trickiest in Finland. Freestyling is possible at the Itarrine side, cross-country runs clock up to 160km and a speed test area will get your competitive side going...

You probably won’t want to be skiing all day anyway - off the slopes there are heaps of things to do. Hop on a snowmobile, meet a reindeer, drive your own husky sleigh or get strategically lost among the gorgeously snow-topped coniferous forests.
