Overview: hotel description: Ruka Suites description

In the centre of the village, these modern apartments are a great choice for families and groups. Everything you need is within easy reach, from the ski lifts to the supermarket, which is actually in the same building.

Most of the apartments have fantastic views of the village, slopes or woodland. And when you get back from skiing, you can pop into your private sauna to warm up, and stash your gear in the drying cabinet to get it toasty for the following day. Then spend the evening relaxing together – catch up on the day’s adventures over a home-cooked meal, before sitting back to watch a film or play a board game.

Looking for some après fun? Head down to the bowling alley for a game or two of ten-pin.

This package holiday to Ruka Suites in Ruka, Finland / Lapland departs Sunday 11th January 2026, for a 7 night stay on a "self catering" board basis. A local tourist tax (Taxe de Sejour or Kurtaxe) is levied by many councils in European ski resorts. It varies by standard and type of accommodation and is age dependent, so not everyone is charged. It's not included in the basic price of your holiday and is usually paid locally. For reference, the average charged in winter 2024 was between €1 and €3 per person, per night.

Nestled in the Finnish hills on the borders of Lapland, just south of the Arctic Circle, a visit here is a once-in-a-lifetime experience (and many return again and again). Sometimes called the ‘gateway to Lapland’, the resort was founded in the winter of 1954 when the first slope opened. Since then it’s flourished there are now 35 groomed runs and over 500km of cross country trails. Most packages have flights that go via Helsinki and land at Kuusamo Airport. From here it’s an easy 30-minute road transf...
Whilst larger resorts can be a bit overwhelming, the compact, unintimidating ski area here is just right for first-timers. Many of the lifts are beginner-friendly t-bars and Ruka also boasts the largest and oldest ski school in Finland. 41% of the runs are suitable for beginners – including the longest at 1.3km (blue 27 on the piste map). We also like number 7, which is a confidence-boosting green that takes you back to the village. Intermediates are just as well catered for with 43% of slopes classified red...
Ruka’s well known in Finland for its vibrant and friendly après ski, with a number of bars, pubs and restaurants to suit all tastes. We love Ruka Peak (previously voted the best wild game restaurant in Finland) where you can sip on cocktails and sample refined dishes in a smart, cosy lounge with stunning arctic views. If you’re feeling adventurous, don’t miss the Riipinen Wild Game Restaurant where reindeer, elk, bear and arctic fish are nearly always on the menu. The aptly named Classic Pizza Ruka has a fri...

"Great if you have children"

The Bradfords & the Rickards, Reading
4/ out of 5
The apartments are quite modern and clean. I would definitely recommend staying here to families with small children over the Ruka log cabins, which are nice to stay in but are quite far out, it’s a long walk or bus ride to get to the skiing whereas these apartments are really close to the slopes. The kids could more or less ski back - they’d come off the slopes and use their poles to push past the restaurants right up to the door. You’re also right in the centre of the resort with the nearest supermarket just a 2 minute walk away. Our friends were in the apartment right next door which was great as the children could pop in and out. We had the bigger apartment which had 3 bedrooms. It was so nice having a proper oven as opposed to just a hot plate. Buying food is quite expensive there, although you can pay for half board if you want to. The suites were quite short of utensils and things like the tin opener were very basic and hard to use, but there were enough plates, knives and forks. The sauna inside was brilliant. The reps gave us pull along sledges which was good fun for getting around and you could also pull the shopping back.
