Overview: chalet description: Ruka Ski Chalets description

Pick the Ruka Ski Chalets to stay in the centre of the village, with the slopes, lifts and supermarket right at your feet. They’ve got everything you need inside too, from separate bedrooms and a living area where you can hang out and watch films, to a private sauna for unwinding at the end of the day.

They’re designed in classic Scandi style, so expect cool neutral colours, a sleek kitchen and plenty of space. And they each have a balcony where you can look out over the slopes, village or courtyard.

Fancy trying some Finnish delicacies? Book a table at the Rukan Kuksa restaurant to tuck into things like roasted reindeer, local mushrooms and bread cheese – a squeaky cheese often topped with cloudberry jam.

This package holiday to Ruka Ski Chalets in Ruka, Finland / Lapland departs Sunday 4th January 2026, for a 14 night stay on a "self catering" board basis. A local tourist tax (Taxe de Sejour or Kurtaxe) is levied by many councils in European ski resorts. It varies by standard and type of accommodation and is age dependent, so not everyone is charged. Nestled in the Finnish hills on the borders of Lapland, just south of the Arctic Circle, a visit here is a once-in-a-lifetime experience (and many return again and again). Sometimes called the ‘gateway to Lapland’, the resort was founded in the winter of 1954 when the first slope opened. Since then it’s flourished there are now 35 groomed runs and over 500km of cross country trails. Most packages have flights that go via Helsinki and land at Kuusamo Airport. From here it’s an easy 30-minute road transf...
Whilst larger resorts can be a bit overwhelming, the compact, unintimidating ski area here is just right for first-timers. Many of the lifts are beginner-friendly t-bars and Ruka also boasts the largest and oldest ski school in Finland. 41% of the runs are suitable for beginners – including the longest at 1.3km (blue 27 on the piste map). We also like number 7, which is a confidence-boosting green that takes you back to the village. Intermediates are just as well catered for with 43% of slopes classified red...
Ruka’s well known in Finland for its vibrant and friendly après ski, with a number of bars, pubs and restaurants to suit all tastes. We love Ruka Peak (previously voted the best wild game restaurant in Finland) where you can sip on cocktails and sample refined dishes in a smart, cosy lounge with stunning arctic views. If you’re feeling adventurous, don’t miss the Riipinen Wild Game Restaurant where reindeer, elk, bear and arctic fish are nearly always on the menu. The aptly named Classic Pizza Ruka has a fri...

"Brilliant Apartments"

We took our granddaughter to Lapland to see Santa, it was important to use that we stayed in clean well equipped accommodation that was also central to all amenities. Ruka was recommended to us by separate groups of friends as being ideal for all levels of skiing as well as not overly commercialised. They stayed at different accommodations and although adequate for their needs it was not luxury accommodation. We decided to stay at Ruka ski apartments and were truly delighted. The accommodation was spacious and immaculate. The woman at the front receptions was friendly and helpful. Her equally friendly daughter works at the nearby cafe/bar where we would go for breakfast on some mornings. The cooking facilities, crockery cutlery and linens in the apartment were quality as were the beds. It was lovely coming home to a warm apartment and having a hot sauna. There is a ski locker inside of the hotel where you can leave your skiing equipment, The locker is assigned to your apartment and holds a lot. It is indoors and heated. Their is a large drying cabinet for your gear. There is a fab restaurant directly under the apartments, they had a great 3 course lunch menu which was excellent. The staff were very friendly and accommodating to our grandaughter. We did eat at other places within the resort, however this restaurant proved to offer the best service and food. I am looking to go back this year to the same apartments. I highly recommend them for the reasons given and the friendliness of the staff. Theresa Litchfield
