In the French Alps' Savoie region, La Plagne was established in the early sixties and now consists of 11 villages: 7 purpose built villages and 4 traditional villages. The aptly named Plagne Centre at the heart of the resort is the main hub of shops, restaurants and après ski. Just underneath lies Plagne 1800, a cluster of chalets spread across a steep hillside. Higher up are Aime-la-Plagne, Plagne-Soleil and Plagne-Villages, all accessible via chairlifts from Plagne Centre. Plagne Bellecote rests over a l...
There are plenty of nursery slopes with access to free beginner lifts and a wide choice of different ski schools for those new to skiing. The slopes around the Belle Plagne area are particularly suitable for beginners. The blue run linking Les Bauches to Montchavin provides a manageable step up in difficulty from the nursery slopes. For those who class themselves as intermediate skiers, La Plagne is paradise. 77% of the runs are graded either blue or red. Particular favourites are the run from La Grand Roch...
It might not rival Val d'sere or Verbier for their wild party scenes, but this is an exceptional resort for unique après ski opportunities. Try snowmobiling at night, ice climbing in Champagny, husky sledding, paragliding, extreme tobogganing and more! One experience not to be missed is the bobsleigh track, used for Olympic training. There are various ways you can choose to go down it, but they are all guaranteed to give you a thrill as you will hurtle down at speeds ranging from 80 km/hr up to a lightening 120...

"Fine for the price of them!"

Joss
4/ out of 5
We had an awesome time in La Plagne! Our studio apartment was fine, it was pretty small and fairly basic, but we went for the cheapest accommodation we could find – and for what we paid it was decent. It was fairly tidy when we got there. The kitchen is pretty small and if you’re self-catering there’s nothing there in terms of dish cloths and washing up liquid. It might be worth bringing them along with you to save you from having to go out and get them. The location is great, in terms of skiing you’re pretty much right on the piste. Belle Plagne is really nice with lots of good bars and restaurants. For the apartments in general I’d give a 3/5, but because of the price we paid I’d give them a 4/5.

We had a good holiday and the snow was fantastic!! The apartments were basic, as we were expecting, but we made do. The location was fantastic!! It was only about 50m from the ski lifts! Also it was only a few steps from pretty much everything. We went to a great pizza take-away a lot and also the K2 restaurant, only about 200m away, and it was fantastic! The food was incredible! We did have a few problems unfortunately with the apartments. Whilst we were there, we had a toilet leak and also no one was around. We had a coffee maker (we don’t drink coffee) but there was no kettle or toaster. Also we did not realize that we had to pay extra for towels (there were none in the apartment). Thankfully the weather and snow was fantastic which made our holiday enjoyable!

"Basic but that's what you're paying for!"

The Cassiopee Apartments are basic apartments but you get what you pay for I say and its hard to find budget accommodation in the Alps these days. Like a lot of French ski apartment blocks they are all a little dated (Very retro looking) and could do with a bit of a modern face lift. As far as location the apartment has a fantastic location, less than 1 minute walk to shops, bars and the main Ski lift. The down side was the check in process, check in desk doesn't open till 2pm and that doesn't help when you get dropped off at 11am then have to wait around with all your baggage. I would give the apartment 4 out of 5 (taking into account you get what you pay for and I would say this is budget accommodation, It was very clean & location ideal)

The Cassiopee apartments are really basic, just sofa beds, a basic kitchen with a dishwasher etc but they’re cheap which is what makes them great. You literally walk out the front and you’re 500 yards to the chairlift and it’s an easy and fun route that you can ski back at the end of the day. The apartments are in Belle Plagne, half way between 1800 and the top so you have a choice whether you want to go into town or straight up the mountain every morning. We ate out a couple of times; there aren’t many restaurants in Belle Plagne so it’s best to go into the main town. Self catering was easy as there’s a Spar in the village and a bigger one at the bottom. There’s also a bakery in the village for the mornings.

"Basic apartments but can't fault the location"

M.W., Worthing
4/ out of 5
We had a very good week away – as self-catering apartments, they’re fairly basic and quite small but we’d stayed there before and knew what we were getting. The apartments are very central in Belle Plagne, which is such a tiny little village that you can go from one end to another in about five minutes, so shops, bars, restaurants and importantly the slopes are all very close. I can’t fault the location - 5/5 - and it’s because the apartments are where they are that makes them good. The actual rooms I’d rate more of a 2 or 3 out of 5. Ours had 2 bunk beds and 2 sofas, which for 3 of us was OK, but if you had 4 people, it would be very tight.

"A great deal with SNO! Not luxury but just what the family needed"

We had a brilliant holiday! Our studio was very basic but we knew exactly what we were getting and had to preconceptions of luxury. It was clean, tidy and comfortable and exactly what I wanted for me, my wife and our little girl. It was essentially a big room with a divider across, so we could put the little one to bed and relax in the lounge area, which doubled up as our bedroom. The kitchen was fine and we managed to do all the cooking we needed without any trouble. The location is really good – so good we’re going to stay there next year. I’ve been skiing in La Plagne every year for the past eight years and always stayed in Les Coches before. Here we were in the perfect position for getting into Belle Plagne and Bellecote and could be on the slopes within two minutes. There were plenty of shops nearby for food shopping and a couple of nice bakeries where we could pick up pastries.

"Very good for budget apartments and well located"

The apartments were fine. They were clean, and the staff were friendly. They aren’t luxury apartments, I read a few negative reviews online before we arrived but I think this was from people who were expecting luxury. I wouldn’t even call them basic apartments, they were really good inside and had everything you needed, even a dishwasher which surprised me. I’ve stayed in apartments in France before that were much more basic than this. They are good apartments if you are on a budget. The only real downside to the apartments was that we were on the 7th floor which was difficult to get to (we had a 7 year old with us which made it harder). The lift takes you up to the 6th floor and then you have to walk quite a long way through corridors and upstairs until you get to the 7th floor. The apartments are in a great location, the ski school is a very short walk away, and when you come back at the end of the day the slopes finish above the apartments and then you just walk a little way down some steps from the slopes to get to them. NB. You can request an apartment on one of the lower floors, just ask one of our advisors at the time of booking

"Loved Belle Plagne and Cassiopee apartments"

We loved Belle Plagne and the Cassiopee Apartments, which are basic but clean and comfortable with free wifi access in the reception area. I would stay there again because of their central location in Belle Plagne and the proximity to the slopes and all the amenities. As we were self catering we ate out a few times in the nearby restaurants which were very good. There were several take away restaurants offering pizzas etc which we did a few times too and opted to cook in our apartment kitchenette with groceries bought from the nearby mini market which was well stocked and reasonably priced. We travelled with my nine year old son and 5 year old daughter, this holiday was a last minute break meant to introduce them to skiing. The holiday was a huge success. I cannot recommend enough the quality of the French ski school and the instructors at ESF who looked after my children so well. Both at the end of one week were able to ski competently and with a certain degree of proficiency. My children would be up early every morning eager to go into ski school and spend the morning with their new friends. We were apprehensive about putting them into ski school but we were immediately put at ease after the first morning when they were made to feel welcome by the instructors. My wife and I would than have some time to ourselves to ski some of the more challenging ski runs in the area. There is plenty to suite every level of skier in the area of La Plagne, its a large area with interlinking pistes so that all abilities can access a great deal of it in a short period of time, my sons particular favourite was "Le Tunnel".
